Arrival & Transport
From Shanghai Airport to Your Hotel
Choose transport using your terminal, destination, luggage and actual arrival time.

Have your hotel address ready before comparing transport. “Shanghai airport” is not a precise starting point: check whether your ticket says Pudong or Hongqiao, then confirm the terminal.
1. Identify the actual destination
Save the hotel's full Chinese name and address, not just its English brand. A chain may have several properties. Check the booking's location against the address before showing it to a driver or searching for a route.
2. Compare the whole journey
Shanghai's official airport guide describes rail, buses and taxis. Judge a route by all its stages, including transfers and the final walk with luggage. An airport rail service is not automatically a direct ride to your hotel. Official airport transport overview.
3. Allow for the arrival process
Use the time you expect to leave the terminal, not your aircraft's scheduled landing time, when checking the last service. Keep a second option if a delay makes the first one impractical.
4. Follow current airport signs
For a taxi or bus, use the airport's designated facilities and verify the destination before departure. Ask an official information desk when you cannot identify the queue or stop.
Keep the hotel phone number available. If the final destination is unclear, show the written address and ask reception to confirm it. Check gate numbers, fares and journey times against current operator information.
Choose with luggage in mind
A route with fewer vehicle changes may be easier after a long flight, even if it is not the shortest on a map. Count the walk from baggage claim, the interchange and the final walk from the station. If you need a lift or are travelling with a stroller, check the relevant entrances rather than assuming the nearest exit is suitable.
The Airport Link Line, the ordinary metro and the Maglev are separate products to identify when reading a journey. Shanghai's metro guide says ordinary one-day and three-day passes exclude the Airport Link Line and Maglev. Verify the fare and ticket needed for each part instead of buying a pass solely because the journey includes rail.
Write the last part first
The final approach often needs the most specific information. Ask the hotel for the entrance name or nearby landmark if its frontage is difficult to identify. Save that answer with the Chinese address. A destination pin near a complex is not necessarily the door where reception is located.
Before departing, check three things: the destination is the right property, you can complete the remaining journey at that time, and you know how you will pay. If one answer is missing, clarify it while you can still ask airport staff. For an overnight arrival, use the late-arrival plan as well.
