Shanghai Museum — People’s Square

Shanghai Museum’s People’s Square branch is at 201 Ren Min Da Dao, with individual entry at the South Gate on Wusheng Road. Its current notice says the announced Americas exhibition occupies the branch without other exhibitions alongside it. Check the programme before choosing this branch or the East branch for permanent displays and other exhibitions.

When
Before choosing the People’s Square museum branch.
Tips
Confirm the current exhibition, ticket and entrance before setting out.
Sources & notes

The two branches have different programmes; follow the museum’s current exhibition and admission notices.

Shanghai Museum — East

Shanghai Museum East is at 1952 Century Avenue, Pudong. Its visitor page directs individuals to the B1 East Gate near Dingxiang Road with an original valid identity document for security and entry checks. General individual entry currently needs no reservation, but special exhibitions and activities can have separate requirements.

When
Before visiting Shanghai Museum East.
Tips
Do not use the People’s Square address or entrance for this branch.
Sources & notes

Check the exact programme you want to see before choosing an admission or booking channel.

Museum booking — Choose the programme

Choose the museum branch and specific exhibition or activity first. At Shanghai Museum East, general individual entry is separate from reserved interactive experiences and ticketed special exhibitions. Use the museum’s named booking channel, select the correct date and programme, and keep any confirmation.

When
Before a museum activity or exhibition that needs booking.
Tips
Group visits have separate arrangements; these tips focus on individual visitors.
Sources & notes

Do not book an unrelated branch simply because its name looks similar.

Done when: You have the required booking, or confirmed that your chosen visit needs none.

Museum entry — Bring the original ID

Bring the original valid identity document required by your museum booking. If you booked with a passport, carry that same passport for entry checks. Contact the stated ticket channel if its form cannot accept your passport details rather than selecting a different document type.

When
Before leaving for a booked museum visit.
Tips
A saved reservation is not a substitute for a required original document.
Sources & notes

The People’s Square visitor guidance specifically requires an original valid identity document for verification.

Done when: Your required original document and booking confirmation are ready.

Museum hours — Check the right closing day

Shanghai Museum’s current pages list Monday closure at People’s Square and Tuesday closure at East, with national-holiday exceptions. Check the correct branch page for your date and last admission. Plan to arrive before last admission rather than the later closing time.

When
Before choosing a museum date and setting out.
Tips
These are Shanghai Museum arrangements, not a rule for every city attraction.
Sources & notes

Check any separately announced evening session for the date you intend to visit.

Done when: You have recorded the opening and last-admission times for your chosen branch and date.
